A masquerade, an information-design exhibition, and a city assembled from unstable objects. Three New York experiences ask audiences to work with different amounts of knowledge.

A SECRET WITH AN INVITATION

CX’s i have a secret to share with you begins its public premiere weekend at Mercer Labs on October 30 and 31.

Guests are invited to embody their zodiac sign and explore encounters across twelve rooms. The premise gives people something to do before the surprises begin.

That invitation matters. An experience can withhold its next turn while making participation understandable. The audience needs a way into the story.

THE SYSTEM COMES INTO VIEW

At MoMA, Full Disclosure: The Edge of Information Design considers how designers turn data into accounts people can interpret.

Its subject is the work between possessing information and understanding what it means. The exhibition continues through June 13, 2027.

For a technology brand, that is a useful creative challenge: show the relationship a person needs to grasp. Give the audience enough structure to form a judgment.

THE CITY LEAVES CLUES

Provisional City, newly opened at Hunter College’s 205 Hudson Gallery, brings together work by eight MFA alumni. It runs through February 6, 2027.

The exhibition approaches urban life through objects, textures, and traces of change.

A place contains competing versions of itself. Creative work can let those versions remain visible, giving people something to investigate rather than resolving every contradiction into a tidy identity.

THE SIGNAL

Mystery needs instructions.

A guest needs a reason to enter. A reader needs enough evidence to judge. A visitor needs something worth examining.

Before commissioning the next campaign or experience, ask two questions: what must be clear before someone commits, and what becomes more interesting afterward?

The answers tell you where the reveal belongs.
