$IGNAL$ 019: WHAT FASHION IS MADE FROM

Apple’s new Les Benjamins feature puts the tools used to make a show in view. In New York, fashion and hospitality leaders are gathering today, while a small workshop prepares to test an unfamiliar textile this weekend.
APPLE SHOWS THE WORK BEHIND THE SHOW
Apple’s account of the Les Benjamins show follows its devices through the production. Bünyamin Aydın used iPad Pro for research, shared mood boards and sketches for three custom hot-air balloons. Filmmaker Neels Castillon shot the Cappadocia runway on iPhone 18 Pro Max.
The interesting Apple story is not a device appearing beside fashion. It is that we can see where the tools entered the work.
FASHION, FOOD AND HOSPITALITY SHARE A ROOM
Today, the Tasteful summit brings leaders from all three fields together at New York’s Cherry Lane Theatre. Its program includes fashion designers, restaurant operators and people building experiences around brands. The guest list is the signal: these are potential collaborators who could make a fashion idea something people gather around, not only something they see.

THE FIBER IS AN EXPERIMENT
This weekend, a West Harlem workshop backed by the New York Fashion Innovation Center will use alginate derived from brown seaweed to make yarn and textile prototypes. Participants will test it through techniques including wet spinning and weaving.
It is a workshop, not evidence that alginate can already replace conventional fibers. That distinction makes the work worth following.
THE SIGNAL
Apple can point to specific work done with its products. Tasteful creates a meeting point for fashion and hospitality. The Harlem workshop starts with a material whose performance still needs testing. Each offers a concrete place to begin a relationship with the work, before the finished image takes over.
